Introducing our new supplier: the family-run Lung Wah Chong

Jeremy Tsang, Director of Lung Wah Chong says: “I’m really proud of our team and the important work we’re doing with Oxford Food Hub. We’re committed to helping local food banks and charities and are excited to keep this partnership going strong. Big thanks to Oxford Food Hub for making this possible.”

We’re excited to give a massive thank you to one of our new suppliers, Lung Wah Chong! As Oxford’s first Oriental and Asian food wholesale distributor in Oxford, this family-owned business has a long history of serving the community with its wide range of oriental food products. Leftover food is natural for businesses at all sizes, and Lung Wah Chong is passionate about making sure this feeds people instead of ending up as waste.

By creating this partnership, Lung Wah Chong is helping us reduce food being wasted across Oxfordshire. Leftover food can arise for many reasons—whether it’s a cancelled event or packaging issues— but it’s almost always high-quality produce that deserves a second life. Food waste accounts for between 8% and 10% of total greenhouse gas emissions (source) , which is why our core focus is to be a vessel that gets spare food from businesses like Lung Wah Chong, into bellies, not bins!

Over the last couple of months, we have received an incredible range of items from them, from cupboard staples like noodles to fresh fruits like pomelo. By letting us distribute their spare food, they have helped to support the 200+ charities and community groups we donate to. Our model allows this food to support a wide variety of different organisations, such as homeless shelters, hospices, food banks, nurseries, women’s refuges, mental health support groups, and many more. Lung Wah Chong’s spare food donation helps us to expand and diversify what we are able to distribute.

If your business ends up throwing away food, please feel free to email us, we can either pick it up for free or you can drop it off to us!
